At almost 15 miles long with 3 locks, the Stainforth and Keadby canal links the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation at Bramwith Lock to the River Trent at Keadby. Most of the canal carves a pretty straight line through the Yorkshire countryside, with large swathes exposed to the elements. Make sure you check weather and wind before heading out for a paddle here.
A brilliant canal for a day on the water, there are many pubs scattered along the route. It’s a great place for a social paddle, finishing at one of the pubs for some grub. There are also lots of swing and lift bridges to look out for along the route. Check the height of these as you pass, as some will require a portage. The canal is popular with coarse fishermen too.
