In the running for the shortest canal in the UK title, the Lydney canal is just one mile long. The canal is located in Gloucestershire and connects the River Severn to Lydney. Opened in 1813 to ship iron and coal from the Forest of Dean, the canal was very much an industrial canal in its heyday, and now a pretty little paddle. Look out for the swing bridge to navigate as you paddle along!
