A lovely way to explore the West Midlands countryside, the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal skirts around Birmingham but never really becomes urban. Great for those situated close to the city but wanting a little peace and quiet on their paddle!
The canal is 46 miles long with 43 locks along the route. Back in its heyday it was an important cog in the waterways network wheel!
The canal connects the River Severn, River Stour and Trent and Mersey Canal at various points. With so many places to go it you can plan a multi day adventure if you wish. Expect to paddle past impressive wetlands, wild pine woods and heathland and impressive estates at various points of the canal!
