The Black Sluice Navigation is an artificial drainage river in Lincolnshire also known as the South Forty-Foot Drain. The drain rises in the Lincolnshire Fens and is navigable for 19 miles.
The word drain conjures up all sorts of images. You need not worry though, it’s not a drain how you would imagine one. The navigation actually drains surface water off the fens and empties into The Haven at Boston, Lincolnshire. It keeps the land in prime condition for farming.
In a relatively flat part of the country, the Black Sluice Navigation provides a perfect countryside paddle. And a great way to spot wildlife! The navigation provides a great viewpoint across the sprawling Lincolnshire countryside and a great place to spot predatory birds overhead as they swoop and dive for their lunch!
