The Swansea Canal is a canal in south Wales which is only navigable for around 5 miles. It flows from Clydach to Pontardawe and from Pontardawe to Ynusmeudwy. The rest of the route is open to cyclists and walkers but the canal is otherwise overgrown and not ideal for a paddle adventure. Volunteers are working tirelessly to try and change this though. Don’t own your own canoe? There are hire options every Sunday in the summer on the Swansea Canal from Coed Gwilym Park, Clydach.
The canal, although overgrown in parts, is a superb place to enjoy the picturesque Welsh countryside. It’s also a great place to observe nature in a natural habitat, with eels and water birds thriving. Much of the canal is flanked by woodland, making it a superb place for a spring, summer or autumn paddle, with something different to observe in different spots.
