Opening in 1819 the Lancaster canal is a 41 mile stretch of canal in the North West of England. If you’re looking for a place to paddle which requires no portages and pretty scenery, the Lancaster Canal is your best friend, as over the whole of the 41 miles, there are no locks. That’s pretty unusual for canals!

The canal links Preston to Kendal and will treat you to the delights of the Silverdale Coast and Forest of Bowland as you paddle along it. It’s one of the only coastal canal routes in the UK, so if you’re looking for a gentle paddle, no portages and beautiful scenery and views, the Lancaster canal should be high on your hit list!

As well as scenery, you’ll also get the opportunity to marvel at the impressive Lune Aqueduct as you paddle along too!
