AquaPaddle Adventure: A Memorable 5K Journey on Water

AquaPaddle is a weekly organised paddle, taking place up and down the country on a waterway near you. We caught up with Craig Duff after he joined his local paddle with his son!

Sunday brought a thrilling new experience for me, an avid 5K Park Runner, and my enthusiastic 5-year-old son, a regular Junior Park Runner. On this occasion, we decided to trade our running shoes for wet shoes and paddles as we embarked on our first AquaPaddle adventure.

Although we had dabbled in paddling recreationally before, the prospect of trying something novel and engaging in our local AquaPaddle event was simply irresistible. Upon arriving at the location, we were warmly greeted by the friendly and enthusiastic Lincoln AquaPaddle Team, including the Captain and the Timelord, who made us feel right at home.

Excitement filled the air as SUPs and various watercraft were being prepared for the event. Before we set off, a comprehensive safety briefing was conducted, ensuring that everyone was aware of the necessary things to know.

After absorbing the essential information, we wasted no time and quickly headed to the water, paddling 400 metres to reach the starting point. Boats side by side with 27 other participants, our hearts were pounding with adrenaline as we eagerly anticipated the start signal.

Our particular AquaPaddle adventure led us up the Fossdyke Navigation, covering a distance of 2.3+ kilometers before looping back to the starting point. The diversity of watercraft on the course was astonishing, with some speedy SUPs impressing us along the way. In our trusty inflatable kayak, my son and I paddled with all our might, cherishing the shared experience on the water. Throughout the journey, marshals lining the banks provided fantastic support, adding to the sense of camaraderie among participants.

As we battled the slight wind  on the way up our return journey was made easier, their encouraging cheers spurred us on. Finally, the enthusiastic shouts from the Timelord and Captain acted as our motivational boost, propelling us towards the finish line. A Successful 5K AquaPaddle: Completing the 5-kilometre AquaPaddle was an achievement we both treasured, and the event’s non-competitive nature allowed us to savour every moment without pressure.

The friendly atmosphere and the sight of so many people revelling in this aquatic adventure made it an unforgettable experience. The AquaPaddle proved to be an excellent way for us to break away from our usual running routine and dive into a thrilling aquatic challenge. With a mix of excitement and serenity, we explored the Fossdyke Navigation, creating memories that will last a lifetime. If you’re seeking a refreshing change of pace and an opportunity to connect with the water and community, I highly recommend joining an AquaPaddle event near you. It’s an adventure you won’t regret!
