Taunton Canoe Club meet weekly on the river on Tuesday evenings (mainly adults), Wednesday evenings for youth and Thursday pool sessions for all members.Tuesday evening sessions on the river can be serious fitness training such as marathon paddling or some members prefer a leisurely social paddle. The session runs from 6.15pm to 8pm and it is largely unsupervised, so paddlers need to be competent to paddle safely in a group or on their own. On Thursday nights, the club uses a local swimming pool, from 8.45pm to 9.45pm for Polo or Polo Training or Coaching and Rolling. There is a strong youth group that meet on Wednesdays all year round. Youth paddlers are encouraged to learn and compete in different disciplines such as slalom, marathon and polo.Beginners joining the club must learn to paddle in the pool or complete a beginners course so they are competent enough for the river sessions.Taster sessions on the river can be arranged in the warmer months. In winter, taster sessions for beginners take place in the pool. There is a growing group of adult members interested in touring day trips. There are some excellent competition paddlers in the club for slalom, marathon and polo. There are a group of sea kayakers that arrange trips between peers.
