The Hereford County Canoe club has a long tradition, having been in existence since 1956. The current membership includes relatives of the founder members and one or two who joined the club at quite a young age during its first 10 years! However the vast majority of the active members have joined during the last 20 years. We are a group of mainly adults, of all ages, who enjoy gentle cruise canoeing on the River Wye, its tributaries and other local rivers and canals, in the company of like minded people. Members have a mixture of kayaks and Canadian canoes. We particularly welcome families to join us who appreciate seeing the countryside and nature from a different angle. We canoe as individuals, totally responsible for our own safety, but recognise that it is logistically much easier, safer and more enjoyable to paddle and transport ourselves with others. We only go on the river between late March and early October when the weather is less likely to be unpleasant and the river levels more suitable to the competence of most of our members. Cruises are generally 8 to 12 miles and involve 4 to 5 hours paddling, with a refreshment break(s) on a suitable riverbank during the cruise.
