Sharing a big boathouse, by the Gloucester - Sharpness canal, with many rowing clubs (with changing rooms, showers, toilets, a gym & a kitchen area), we cater mainly for 3 kayaking disciplines (with some of us doing a bit of all 3): white water, touring and marathon/racing. In the autumn & winter, we also have pool sessions: twice a month. The white water group & the touring group go out on trips nearly every weekend. We organise an annual WW trip to the Alps, another to Scotland or the Lakes, a 3-4 training camp at May half-term in Wales for tourers, WW & racers & a surf weekend in the Gower. Every Tuesday, from mid April, we also train/paddle either at Symonds Yat after 6 pm or on the canal. The marathon group trains twice a week throughout the year & competes from April to October, in races in the South West (in the Hasler series). Keen racers train 3 times a week or more and through the winter too (indoors or/on the water). Since Sept 2020, we have a ShePaddles marathon group and we could plan to do a Junior Development group in the future if we were to find enough volunteers to help lead it!The club organises two Hasler races: in Tewkesbury on the Severn (July) & in Gloucester (September). Every club member is expected to help at, at least, one of these races.New paddlers of all abilities are always welcome. Tuesdays introductory session (6 pm) must be booked via our website. Beginners courses are usually starting in April or May (4 or 8 sessions on Tuesdays), booking in advance is essential and can only be done by contacting us via our website. Plan ahead, don't get too late!We don't organise beginner's courses in September because winter is looming! Registering for a beginner's course means you will have endeavour to attend all sessions if you really want to progress in order to be able to join the rest of the club in club activities/paddles.We are not a canoe hiring facilities; you can find them at Symonds Yat! We welcome new people who are going to be ACTIVE members in the club with us, volunteering at events, regularly joining club paddles and not joining just for one or two appearances or just to store their boat!
